Groom's Cake Disaster

So, you know I love to decorate cakes and you know that for the sake of saving money, I was going to make mine and Justin's wedding cakes.  I finally got some time to do a practice run on Justin's cake and let me just say, the elements were against me from the start.

I was planning a double layer 11x15 cake.  When I was transferring one cake to another counter top, it broke into about 5 pieces.  No problem I said.  I'll just piece it back together and ice it.  It wont look perfect, but that's what a practice cake is for.  Well, i couldn't figure out how to exactly piece it back together, because I'm a little bit of a moron.  Because the inner cake was exposed to the outside, the icing on the side just wouldn't stay on.  AND I didn't make enough german chocolate icing and I was only able to ice 1/2 of the top of the cake.  Here is how it turned out....

Aaaaaahhhhhh!  This is by far the wreckiest cake I've ever made!  But Justin lucked out.  Because he has the most caring, wonderful boss in the whole entire world, she offered to buy his cake for him from Candy Haven!  Yea!  So now we will have 2 beautifully decorated cakes given to us by some wonderfully nice people!

I think he still plans on having german chocolate as his cake.  And he was talking about having some chocolate covered strawberries on it with an "H" piped on the top somewhere.  (The same design I had come up with, just arranged a little differently).

RSVP's Making Their Way Back to Us

Our first RSVP's.  So far we have 60ish in attendance!

Invitations are Out

You already know this, but I took this picture for the blog when I mailed them and then got too busy to post it!  But, I'll share anyway!

And yes, I purposely stuck them in with my left hand so you could see my beautiful ring ;)

Flower Girl-Take 2!

Here is Emma, the gorgeous flower girl.  She's got on her fabulous little ensemble...pink dress, brown headband, and pink ballet slippers!  With the exception of her flower girl basket, she's ready to sprinkle  the aisle with rose petals just before I make the all eyes-on-me, nerve racking walk down to my future husband.  (Is it weird that I'm more nervous about people looking at me all at one time than I am about "for as long as we both shall live"?)

And so emma can have the dark pink color incorporated in her outfit, I tied dark pink tulle in bows around the handle of her basket.  I hope you like it Emma!

Bridal Portraits

This was a long day but super fun!  We started out driving to Waxahachie so that Katy could do my hair.

Emily and Casie went a long for the ride and waited patiently as Katy worked.  Em, you look fabulous by the way with your flapper headband.  So glad you decided to to take after the coolest and prettiest sister! ;)

We laughed a lot while Katy was doing her magic.  We talked about the wedding, my goofy daddy, people and teachers we knew from high school, and my very lovely grandmother who loves to tell a whopper of a story.

Katy did a good job!  Mama made a pretty pink flower that goes in my hair.  Here is what the end result looked like.

Too bad it didn't stay that curly!  By the time we took the pictures, it was only curled at the ends.  It was just too hot that day =(

Below you can catch a glimpse of a few shots taken by Marisa Swarbrick Photography.  Not sure when I'll get the rest, but I'll be sure to share the proofs with everyone!

My little helpers

My family came up to help me with anything I need for the wedding.  We had so much fun!

Casie is finishing up the last few flower seed match books and emily is stuffing RSVP envelopes.

Smile for the camera girls.

Mama was making a template to cut out the pink paper to line the inner envelopes of the invitations.

We got  a lot done that night.  Thanks girls for your help.
P.s.  You can see from the pics that the table is a cluttered mess.  Still is.  Guess that is what I'll have to expect until we get back from Mexico!
